Austin is becoming more and more topfree. Women
can be seen going topless on lakes Travis and Austin periodically (especially
on Memorial and Labor Day weekends), and outside of the Austin area in New Braunfels
floating the river (Comal and Guadeloupe). Barton Creek seems to be going the
other direction, however. The last few times I have gone (last summer I went
3 times), I have been the only one at the time to take advantage of my rights
and leave my top at home. I can't say that I have ever been harassed, and most
people are startled at first, but then get used to the idea. Thank you so much
for operating a site that confirms my belief that I am not crazy, and there
is absolutely nothing wrong with a woman who decides that she is more comfortable
sans top. Keep it up.

I recall reading an article in "Lee Baxandall's World Guide to Nude Beaches and Resorts" some years back about topless being practiced at Barton Springs in Austin, TX. It mentioned that the practice, which was prevalent in the 60's and 70's wasn't seeing any use these days. We visited there the summer of 2001, and very few were topless, but there were some; I joined in, and had a wonderful time.

My wife and I went to Barton Springs last week and a few of the women were on the upper grassy area with just the bottoms on. Barton Springs is a public freshwater 1/8 mile pool (fantastic). In Texas it is not against the law for a woman to take a top off, but you can't legally show genitals (therefore the tiny thongs are used).
I would suggest that one take a look at the people on the site and even ask if not sure if there might be someone that would take offense. Barton Springs has been known as a topfree place for years.
