It's contagious. Yesterday I had an hour to spare between meetings in midtown and took a break in the Park. I was sitting on the grass at the Sheeps Meadow catching some rays. The grass was fairly crowded with groups of sunbathers, frisbee players, etc. A women spread a towel next to me and took her top off. No-one paid much attention. About 1/2 hour later she was joined by a friend who did the same. Around 10 minutes later, people around began to notice the two women. One group around 10 feet away was comprised of one woman and three men who had biked there. After some muted discussion, the woman removed her top. About 15 minutes later, the first two were joined by a third friend who had apparently never done this before. The first two discussed the merits of topfree, based mostly on the feeling of physical warmth and pleasure from the sun as well as the sense of freedom and hierocracy of gender bias. After some time the third woman removed her top. After a while, two woman about 15 feet away removed theirs. I had to leave before I knew if the contagion spread any further.
