Double Bluff Beach, Whidbey Island, Washington. Greatest "sandy" beach within one hour of Seattle (my own opinion). This place is listed only on the most detailed maps, but is easily accessible by paved road. Limited parking, so get there by 10:00 or 11:00. Five miles of deserted beaches with shallow water. My wife strolled and swam topfree there three times last Summer and had no problem at all. We saw dozens of people, including a few families. Very recommended and worth a day-trip if you're visiting Seattle.
