The North coast of the Dominican Republic over the last five years has improved dramatically due to the country's emphasis on tourism. Resorts and beaches that used to attract only Europeans and Canadians are now attracting Americans. New Resorts are being developed with this influx of Americans in mind (larger, nicer accommodations), but prices are still very reasonable. A left over benefit from the predominantly European and Canadian clientele is the acceptability of topfree use of beaches and pools. I am told that topfree use of beaches is acceptable at almost all public beaches along the North and east coasts and my personal experiences and those of friends attests to that.
