I just went with my husband to Isla Mujeres for a week. We stayed at Playa Norte (North Beach) and got to sunbathe topfree. I only went topfree and thongs a few times, but it certainly wasn't because the atmosphere wasn't conducive. The tourists, vendors and the locals are pretty tolerant of topfree sunbathing. There must have been about 15-25% of women topfree at one time. The atmosphere is great, much better than Cancun to be topfree or in your strings.

As I said I was only topfree a couple of days right on the beach although I did cover up to go into the water. But a high percent of women stayed topfree when they went into the ocean. There were a couple of girls next to us who were both topfee and one was in the tiniest g strings. The next day there were a 3 couples around us and all the girls were topfree. There weren't a whole lot of thongs or g strings especially compared to the number of topless women. Most of the women who came to the bars (practically all) did cover up.

Overall a great place to topfree especially for 1st timers due to the relaxed atmosphere. I have heard of Day trippers from Cancun staring, but we hardly had any although we did visit in March after the spring break rush had died down.

We just returned from our second trip to Isla Mujeres Mexico and enjoyed one of our favorite activities, sunbathing topfree. The ladies seemed to number about 10-15% again this year, depending which part of the beach you were on. Those that seem to have the biggest problem with it are the "day trippers" from Cancun.

It was so nice to tan completely exposed to the warm rays of the sun, and feel the water as we would take a dip to cool off. A totally new and exhilarating experience for us was to go snorkeling topfree near the Hotel Garrafon but topfreedom is NOT allowed at the Garrafon Park, which is more expensive.

Our plans are being thought through for next year. Again we will be leaving our tops behind, just taking the thong bottoms and will probably never even consider vacationing anywhere where topfreedom isn't practiced, allowed or condoned and encouraged.

My husband and I have been to Isla Mujures two times now and I have gone topless both times without any reservation. I am in my mid-forties so it can be a little intimidating the first time but once my top was off I knew I would never want to sunbathe again with it on. What a great way to sunbathe and swim. We love it on the island, the people are very friendly and it is very laid back - there is not much to do which I why I love it so much. We spend most of our days there laying on the beach, swimming, walking, and sleeping. It is just what we need.

We were on Isla Mujeres for our first trip to Mexico ever and our first public exposure with topfreedom. There is an excellent beach, Playa Norte, on the tip of the island which could easily be one of the top ten beaches in Mexico if not the Caribbean. We would estimate maybe 15% of the women were topfree on the entire beach which is maybe a mile long. It seemed to vary a little from day to day and by time of day. We were usually two of the first at the beach in the morning and two of the first to be topfree. It seemed that no one wanted to be "first" to shed their top, and we were reluctant the first day, too. Those women who were topfree seemed to move to their own areas to some extent, maybe feeling that they were less obvious or whatever.

We felt totally comfortable in what seemed to be a matter of minutes in sheddding our tops, having the benefit of a sense of freedom and being uninhibited. We felt totally comfortable sunning ourselves on the beach, going out in the water, strolling the beach and taking a short walk to a little palapa bar for a beverage, all this with wearing nothing more than a small thong. There were no real outright gawkers, although there were a few second glances. One did try to take our picture when we took a leisurely stroll down the beach, but I attributed that to Juanita's tattoo.

As the sun starts to go down everyone starts to pack up their gear and head to the little palapa bars to avoid dehydration after being out in the sun all day. There were at least two days we went to one of our favorite little bars topfree along with at least six or seven other female patrons being topfree. We never imagined in our wildest dreams that we would ever do that. All the ladies seemed completely at ease with being stripped to the waist at a bar with perhaps a total of 20-25 customers.

Our tans are already starting to fade some and we can't wait to go back next year. Yes, we will save space in our luggage with leaving our tops at home. Isla Mujeres is a good place to be topfree and a good place for a beginner to start practicing TOPFREEDOM!!

In September, I made two day trips to Isla Mujeres, near Cancun. Both trips, my husband and I visited Playa Norte (Coco Beach), and about 20 percent of the women were topless. Most of the topless women stayed on the beach, and some went into the ocean. In addition, it was not uncommon to see a few topless women walking the beach. Both trips I went topless the entire time we were there, including walking the beach. This is a beach that is used by many of the locals and their families, although topfree is practiced only by the tourists. However, the natives don't seem to care much. Nobody stared or hassled me and I felt very comfortable both times I was there. Occasionally, a shuttle boat will anchor just off the beach (the water is very shallow) and a horde of teenagers will invade the beach - but I just moved down the beach to another spot. This is the place near Cancun where topfree is most widely practiced, and also makes for a very nice day!

First time topfree women will probably feel more comfortable at Playa Norte because it is more common here than at the hotel zone beaches and the overall atmosphere on the island is much more laid back and carefree. You will definitely not be the only one on the beach that is topless which makes the whole experience more comfortable.

We made a day trip on Friday, snorkeled at El Garrafon beach, then laid to sunbathe. Three girls went topless there. After half an hour Silvia asked us to remove our tops as she untied her top for tanning her back. None of us had done that before so didn't follow her. After a while she turned to tan her breasts. She stayed sans top till we left the beach.

Hello-
My wife and I just returned from Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and Isla Mujeres in Mexico. My wife went topless at all three locations but primarily only on the beach.
The percentage of topless is estimated as follows:
Cancun (at Fat Tuesday's on Playa Tortuga Beach and just west of there 1/2 mile) 30-45% topless
Playa Del Carmen (From Cozumel ferry pier north about a mile) 40-50%
Isla Mujeres (Playa Norte) 25-35 %
Please note that there were NO full nude persons at any location. These observations were made the week of September 17-25, 1999. Many of the topless ladies were from Europe.
