One place close to me that is agreeable to topfree sunbathing is a park in Georgetown, Washington, DC. It's called "Montrose", on R Street, NW, two blocks east of Wisconsin Ave. There are distinct areas...the upper one has big lawns and old trees. We just put down towels and have not had any negative reaction. The other part you get to by walking down a slightly rough path at the extreme left side of the park (look for a chain and metal post blocking cars). Go down to where the path turns to soil and then walk left close by a tall curving stone wall along a brook, crossing a small bridge. There are south-facing gentle hills farther along which are usually mowed. Both areas of the park have a tranquil quality, but I prefer the hills near the brook. The sense of being in a big city completely vanishes, and birds singing are the only "annoyance". People coming along include college students (it's close to Georgetown University), walkers with dogs, etc. A great place for peace and quiet.
