I've gotta tell you...it's been
a while since I'd walked the beach in Waikiki. Today, my friend
Ann from Canada and I decided to go people watching.
There were two women in close proximity who were tanning topless,
one on the Hawaiian Hilton beach area, and the other on Ft. Derussy's
beachfront without a care, or bother from anyone. They were there
for hours--I know, we walked a long way and came back; they were
still lying there, belly side up and looking slightly sunburned.
My Canadian friend wanted to lay out and remove her top, but we decided to see just how liberal the beach was overall. Ann took the opportunity to join their freedom for a short time; she'd already had enough sun for one day by then.
It's good to live in Hawaii. If more women were just uninhibited enough to tan topless, I'm telling you NO ONE would bother them about in Waikiki.

My wife and I recently spent a couple of days at Sunset Beach on Oahu's north shore. My wife laid out topfree wearing only a thong bikini bottom the entire time we were there, and no one gave any hassle. The lifeguards were well aware, as they rode by as normal, noticing her, but again, just as they would notice anyone. Everyone was respectful, and there were no problems. The only specific reaction I saw was a local surfer gave me a low key, respectful thumbs up as he walked by. She did use discretion, however, as far as taking walks up the beach, or going to get in the water, as she would put on a top for those things. I think that's fair enough. For the record, she was the only one that I saw without a top, but no one seemed to have any sort of problem with it. In speaking with local police, lewdness and exposing genitals is against the law. Toplessness in good taste is perfectly legal. Have fun!

I just spent the day walking along Waikiki Beach, in Hawaii. It was crowded. I made one pass down and then back up when I spotted a young woman tanning topless while reading a book. She was next to, who I assume was her mother, but looked more like her grandmother who was leering at passersby as if to ensure that no one would look at her free-spirited daughter. Nonetheless, I took it as a sign and opportunity to do the same -- for HOURS, without much notice or any disruption.

Met a couple of young women from Ireland vacationing here who tanned all day long, topfree at Pupukea Beach on Oahu's North Shore. They were on the west end of the large beach, flipping sides depending on their planned baking time. No one paid them any mind, as a matter of fact a number of guys appreciated them from a distance, but no one worked up the nerve to talk to them -- except me. That's how I found out where they were from.
Many European travelers stay at places like "Backpackers" near the same beach to cut costs, traveling on a shoe string budget. It's not unusual to see women from Denmark, Germany, England, or Ireland tanning uninhibited.
These two young ladies are intent on going to Waikiki the following day. I expect their routine will be the same. It's seen down there too.
