My wife and I recently returned from a visit to
Phuket in Thailand. I like to encourage her to go topfree where ever possible,
and Phuket was an excellent place for building up her confidence to do so. There
are many European tourists and topfreedom is common.
The first afternoon we arrived, we spent sun tanning on Kata beach. There were
many Europeans sunbathing without their tops - I would estimate 30% - and many
also ventured into the water for a topfree swim. Being a busy beach and with
so many others around, my wife quickly shed her top and spent the rest of the
afternoon topfree.
We did some trips to Raya island and Phi Phi island. We were quite disappointed
with Raya island and only noticed one lady tanning topfree there. Topfree was
a little more common on Phi Phi island which seems to attract hoards of young
backpacker tourists.
Later in the week we moved up to Nai Thon beach, which is a very quiet beach
near the airport. No-one was tanning topfree on the main section of the beach,
but there is a small cove past the rocks on the south end where topless bathing
was more acceptable. We spent a lovely day on the beach here with my wife topfree
the whole time. She got no attention from anyone and was very comfortable swimming
topfree.
At the end of our stay we moved to Khao Lak and area about 50km north of Phuket.
It attracts more mainly German and Swedish tourists. Topfreedom was not as common
as at the other beaches, although there was one woman at our hotel tanning topfree
around the pool (and from her tan, obviously spent most of her time that way).
There were also a couple of women of the beach in thongs and topfree. Unfortunately
we had met up with friends at this point, so my wife wasn't about to tan topfree
again.
Thailand is a wonderful place for a holiday and just as good for topfreedom!

Last February I visit Phuket, a famous island south
of Thailand. I stayed with my husband in a resort near Karon beach and noticed
about half of the women at the swimming pool area are topfree, most of them
are from European countries. There was no Asian or local girls without a top.
At the beach, about one third of foreigners were topfree. Local people have
open attitude about topfree for foreigners.
On the last three days, we took a trip to Raja island, a bit further south of
Phuket and found a nice resort there. The beach was very nice with crystal clear
water. Almost all women at the resort and at the beach were topfree. Actually,
I noticed that I was the only woman with a top there. I was surprised that lots
of Asian girls from Japan and Korea were topless. I was very shy but decided
to try feeling of topfree. My husband also noted that there were a few local
Thai tourists without top too and also encouraged me to do so. It felt great
and I never had my top again during the stay. We plan to return there next summer,
such a wonderful place to enjoy topfree sunbathing and swimming.

My best friend and I and our husbands went on a tour of Asia last year. Of all the Asian destinations we visited (Singapore, Penang, Langkawi and Phuket) Phuket would have to be the most tolerant of toplessness.
Phuket was our last stop and I was apprehensive about the locals' attitudes to being topless, so on the first day at our resort I wore a reasonably conservative two piece. My friend (Jodie) also wore a two piece. To our surprise, many of the tourists at the resort were topless. Jodie and I both took our tops off immediately. Both our husbands were in a state of surprise! The second day, I wore a more revealing bikini and Jodie wore a thong and we both went topless sunbathing and swimming in the pool and beach. We also got a nice massage at the beach. We felt comfortable even walking around the resort without a top too.
A few Asian tourists were quite excitable over the topless bathers, although there were also quite a few Asian tourists topless themselves.
After that, on our day trips to the islands, I just left my top at home, and basically wore a singlet and shorts over a thong out and about and just stripped down to the thong once at the beach/islands without too much hassle.
I would say that about at least half if not more, of the women around the resorts and tourist trips were topless.

My husband and I recently visited Phuket, and found to our surprise that topless was extremely common. In our resort, at least half the women were topless, and many of those also wore thongs. Much to my husband's delight, I also took the opportunity to go topless myself, spending most of the time at the beach and the pool in nothing more than a thong. On the day trips out to the other islands, like on Koh Phi Phi (where they shot The Beach), and Krabi there was some opportunity to go swimming and so on, which I also spent topless. It was quite refreshing to be so free - and my tan after the 7 day trip was gorgeous!!
I had little trouble going topless and most people turn a blind eye. However, there were a few tourists that blatantly took photos of me and others.
Generally the locals seem to ignore or are at least used to the visitors being top free, and there were a few Asians themselves sunbathing or swimming without tops.
